Technical SEO

The plumbing that has to work before content investment pays off.

Get a Technical Audit

Technical SEO is everything that controls whether search engines can crawl, render, and index your pages properly. Most ranking problems on small and mid-sized sites are technical, not content. The investment in better content quietly leaks value when the underlying technical foundation is broken.

We work through the whole stack: crawlability, indexation, internal linking, structured data, Core Web Vitals, render-blocking resources, JavaScript dependencies, canonical strategy, and the dozens of smaller issues that compound. The deliverable is a documented, prioritised list of things to fix, ordered by impact.

Independent technical SEO is particularly useful when an in-house team is too close to the site to see what is wrong, or when an existing agency relationship has plateaued and a second pair of eyes would help.

Common Questions

What does a technical SEO audit actually cover?

Crawlability and indexation, internal linking, site architecture, URL structure, redirect chains, canonical handling, structured data (existing and missing), Core Web Vitals, render-blocking issues, JavaScript dependencies, mobile rendering, hreflang if relevant, sitemap and robots.txt configuration, and image optimisation. The output is an issue-by-issue document with implementation specifications.

How long does a technical audit take?

For a small to mid-sized site, allow one to two weeks from kick-off to final document. Larger or more complex sites take longer. The audit itself takes a few days; the rest is making sure the recommendations are clear, prioritised properly, and actionable rather than generic.

Can you do the implementation, or only the audit?

Both. Some clients want only the audit and prefer to implement with their own team. Others want ongoing support as the work goes through development. Both arrangements work; it depends on what your team has the capacity for.

What tools do you use?

Screaming Frog for crawling, Google Search Console for indexation and performance data, Bing Webmaster Tools as a second source, Semrush for competitive technical comparison, and various meta-tag and schema validators. Where a client already has Ahrefs or other tooling, we work with what they have.

How much does technical SEO cost?

Pricing depends on scope, site size, and complexity. A standalone audit is typically a one-off project; ongoing technical support is usually structured as a monthly retainer scaled to the volume of work. The free 15-minute consultation is where we sense-check fit and scope before any pricing conversation.
